Job Description:

Full-Time, Permanent Position requiring a minimum commitment of 35 hours per week on studio premises.  The salary is competitive.

Job Summary:

SCB’s next Executive Director will be responsible for executing the organization’s strategic plan derived from our mission as determined by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director and Artistic Director will work closely as collaborators, and will play leadership roles, with the Board, in developing strategic plans and in defining the mission.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Oversight. Oversee budget planning, and manage financial performance throughout the year. Supervise bookkeeper/controller to assure that monthly financial reports are provided to the Board. Oversight of yearly audit, development and tracking of budget and programs and works with board on yearly budget.
  2. Development/Public Relations. This is a very important area. The ED will oversee and manage fundraising –individual, corporate, and foundation, and events. Developing a larger donor base will be an important component. Establishing a larger community presence by supporting and clearly conveying SCB’s brand identification. As well as, parent/volunteer oversight and community outreach programming.
  3. Operational Administration – contracting with performance venues, musician’s union, stage manager and outside artists (guest dancers, orchestra, lighting designers, etc.). Overseeing all logistics for performances. Supervision of office support staff. Works closely with School Director on parental inquiries. Reports to the board and works closely with the artistic director programming, annual budgeting and strategic planning.

Candidate Qualifications:

Five or more years of business and operations experience in both business and the performing arts. Solid financial acumen including budgeting and accounting. Proven marketing communication and donor cultivation skills. Demonstrated fundraising experience with involvement with capital campaigns. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Salt Creek Ballet was established in 1985 to present professional quality dance programming to west-suburban audiences, provide high-level performance opportunities for area dancers, and encourage appreciation and awareness of dance in an underserved area. The Company’s high standards and unique blend of major classical productions and artistically diverse and challenging repertory programs have brought critical acclaim, sold-out performances, and a loyal following.

Salt Creek Ballet dancers are pre-professionals drawn from the best Chicago-area talent.  Internationally known guest artists, choreographers, and designers regularly work with SCB to provide dancers and audiences alike with a level of performance usually associated with professional companies.  Repertory includes traditional classical works plus original classical and contemporary works by both resident and guest choreographers.

SCB operates a 10,000, square foot facility housing four dance studios located in Westmont, IL.  The organization employs nine executive, artistic, and administrative staff, eleven dance instructors, and four pianists.  The School includes classes in classical ballet, character, jazz, modern, tap, contemporary, pas de deux, ballet acting, and other classes to enrich a dancer’s capabilities.  Instructors are world-class professionals with impressive backgrounds and experience to share.

Salt Creek Ballet is located 20 miles west of the Chicago metropolitan area, in Westmont. The studios are 12 miles west of Midway International Airport, and 19 miles South of O’Hare International Airport. Surrounding suburban areas include Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills, Oak Brook, and Downers Grove.
